Garage door guy couldn’t have come along at a better time. I’d barely posted my take on the smarthome hype when news broke of a negative IoT gadget review on Amazon leading to a customer getting his device bricked by an angry entrepreneur. You can read the full story on CNET, BBC or other news outlets for some chuckles.
Once you’re done laughing, you might just want to take stock of anything in your home that connects to the big bad internet and shut it down; or give it to your in-laws. I’m not the only one to have said it – security risks abound with connected gadgets, and as we can see, it’s not just shady hackers messing with your life.
And here’s the positive takeaway: less is more. Opening that garage door manually is one small step towards better mobility and less soon to be obsolete junk in our landfills. How can that not be a good thing?
