I&#8217;d barely posted my take on the smarthome hype when news broke of a negative IoT gadget review on Amazon leading to a customer getting his device bricked by an angry entrepreneur. You can read the full story on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/garadget-bricks-smart-garage-door-opener-after-bad-review-iot\/\">CNET<\/a>,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-39502256\">BBC <\/a>or other news outlets for some chuckles.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re done laughing, <!--more-->you might just want to take stock of anything in your home that connects to the big bad internet and shut it down; or give it to your in-laws. I&#8217;m not the only one to have said it &#8211; security risks abound with connected gadgets, and as we can see, it&#8217;s not just shady hackers messing with your life.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s the positive takeaway: less is more. Opening that garage door manually is one small step towards better mobility and less soon to be obsolete junk in our landfills.
